A perfect 3-day London Christmas itinerary is your ticket to making it a reality. As an American living in London and spending weeks each year immersing myself in all the festive activities, I know first-hand how much there is to see and do. Planning a visit to London this Christmas can be a daunting task! So I’ve put together a ‘cheat sheet’ to create a seamless London trip you’ll never forget.

This is a 3-day plan that combines London’s iconic attractions with the city’s best party vibes, showing you how to plan a trip just like in the movies!

Day 1: Festive gastronomy and iconic history

Your first day will be spent getting into the festive spirit with some of London’s most famous markets and historic landmarks.

  • Morning: Immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere of Borough Market, a foodie’s paradise. It’s also the perfect place to pick up a quintessential British souvenir: a Christmas pudding. I highly recommend visiting McLaren’s Christmas Pudding. It’s a family business with a phenomenal pudding that isn’t the “fruitcake” stereotype that people fear. It’s actually something the British eat at Christmas.

From there, take a short walk to London Bridge Christmas Market, my favorite holiday market as it has a very diverse range of food items.

  • Afternoon: Discover one of London’s most breathtaking sights by visiting the Tower of London. You can explore centuries of history, from the Crown Jewels to the iconic Beefeaters.
  • Evening: Plan to be at the Sky Garden just before sunset to watch London bathed in truly magical light. It’s a perfect way to end a busy day with a spectacular view.

Day 2: Royal Grandeur and London Christmas Lights

Day two combines the best of Royal London with dazzling light displays and a special evening of music.

  • Morning: Start your day with a visit to Westminster Abbey, a place steeped in royal history. It was here that the marriage of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales took place, as well as the coronation of the Queen and more recently of King Charles III. From here it’s just a short walk to Trafalgar Square to see the famous Christmas tree and market.
  • Afternoon: Continue your cultural journey by visiting the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, home to masterpieces by Van Gogh and Da Vinci.
  • Evening: Experience a real Christmas spectacle in London. Take a magical Christmas light walk along Regent Street and Carnaby Street to see London’s most beautiful and famous displays. Then, unwind with an unforgettable evening at a candlelight concert, a breathtaking (and very romantic!) way to spend a cold December evening.

Day 3: Ice skating and iconic shopping

Your last day is dedicated to the quintessential London Christmas activities and a luxury shopping spree.

  • Morning: Lace up your skates for a festive morning on the ice at Somerset House Ice Rink.
  • Afternoon: Treat yourself to a deliciously festive experience with Grinchmas Afternoon Tea on a Bus. Afterwards, take a leisurely stroll past Buckingham Palace and take a few photos in front of the gate.
  • Evening: End your trip to London with some iconic purchases at Fortnum & Mason, a true London institution. If you want a more formal Christmas tea experience, you can skip the Grinchmas Bus Afternoon Tea and enjoy tea at Fortnum & Mason instead. You can also book an evening performance at the Royal Albert Hall, a truly unforgettable way to end your trip. (This is where all the James Bond movie premieres take place!)
