About Aloo Tikki

Alu tikki, also known as alu ki tikkia or alu ki tikki, is an Indian snack consisting of boiled potatoes, peas and various curry spices. It is popular in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is served hot with Green Chutney, Tamarind Chutney, as well as dahi (yogurt).

Aloo Tikki are mashed potato pancakes fried with coriander, onions and spices. Some dhabas or cafe-style restaurants in North India make a sandwich with aloo tikki stuffed between two slices of bread.

I love making escalopes, it’s one of the simple escalopes made from potatoes. I call them tikki because they do not contain corn flour coating.

Traditionally it’s fried, but I pan fry it with a little oil to make it even healthier. It was still great. You can have it with ketchup or any of the chaat chutneys.

Step by step photos

1) Take boiled peeled potatoes in a bowl. Mash them roughly using a fork or a potato masher.

2) Add coriander leaves and onions to the potatoes.

3) Add the spice powders, salt the potatoes and mix well.

4) Add breadcrumbs for binding.

5) Mix well until the mixture is homogeneous.

6) Take a small portion and shape it into a tikki.

7) You can make it thick or thin depending on your taste.

8) Once all the tikkis are shaped, place them in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to firm up.

9) Heat oil for shallow frying. Place the tikki and fry until golden brown on both sides.

10)Let the tikkis cook and get a golden color.

11) Serve.
